The role Our client is adding an Electrochemist to its Compliance and Inspection team to strengthen its coating inspection and its materials and bolt failure analysis. You will be based in County Meath, visit client sites across Ireland and the EU, and report to the Technical Lead for Compliance and Inspection. You will work alongside welding inspectors, NDT technicians and ISO auditors. Together you will use electrochemical and materials science methods to investigate corrosion and coating failures for clients in manufacturing, fabrication and construction, and you will turn lab and field data into findings that hold up under audit. What you will do Plan and run electrochemical tests on metals, coatings and fasteners, including potentiodynamic polarisation, EIS, LPR and galvanic testing, and compare the results with salt-spray testing. Lead corrosion and coating failure investigations on steel, aluminium, concrete and composite substrates, both in the lab and on client sites. Support bolt and fastener failure analysis, working out whether corrosion, hydrogen embrittlement, fatigue or overload caused the failure. Assess coating performance and degradation against ISO 12944, ISO 4628, ISO 8501 to 8503 and related standards. Advise on cathodic protection, material selection and corrosion prevention for structural steel and fabrication projects working to EN 1090 and ISO 3834. Arrange material verification and characterisation with partner laboratories, such as SEM/EDX, metallography and XRF. Write technical reports, root-cause analyses and recommendations for technical teams and board-level stakeholders. Provide materials evidence for regulatory compliance and Construction Products Regulation documentation. Keep lab methods, calibration records and QA/QC evidence in line with ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025 good practice.
