Welding & Fabrication Recruitment in Ireland

We recruit welders and fabricators for workshops, fabrication yards and sites across Ireland, from structural steel contractors and agricultural machinery makers to stainless steel pipe fabricators. Most of the roles we're asked to fill are permanent and full-time, and the employer usually needs someone who can work from drawings, follow a weld procedure and hold a current qualification for the process involved.

We look for candidates in Ireland first, and across the EU and in Brazil when the local search comes up short. Before we put anyone forward, we ask about the processes, materials and positions they've welded, so the CVs you see fit the work in your shop.

Welding Roles We Recruit

Welder fabricators and steel fabricators make up most of our welding searches. They cut, fit and weld to drawings, usually MIG/MAG on carbon steel, and on smaller jobs they'll often take a piece from plate to finished frame. TIG welders are wanted for stainless steel and pipework, where the finish and penetration of each weld matter more than speed.

We also recruit coded welders with an EN ISO 9606 qualification for pressure and pipe work, pipe welders and fitters, welders for agricultural machinery manufacturers, and welding inspectors who check finished work against the procedure and the drawings.

Checking a Welder's Experience

A job title doesn't tell you much about a welder. Two people with the same title can have spent years on very different work, so we ask what they've welded, in which positions and thicknesses, from what kind of drawings, and whether their qualifications are current for the process you use.

If you'd like to see someone weld before you make an offer, we can arrange a practical test at your workshop for candidates in Ireland. For candidates in Brazil, we can organise a visit so you can interview them and watch them work in person.

Hiring Welders From Outside Ireland

Welders from EU countries can start work in Ireland without an employment permit. Candidates from Brazil and other countries outside the EEA usually come through a General Employment Permit, which needs a salary of at least €36,605 a year and, in most cases, a Labour Market Needs Test, so the job has to be advertised for 28 days with JobsIreland and EURES and on one other job site before you apply.

Allow for that advert, DETE's processing time and the move itself when you plan the start date. Our work permit page explains what you'll need to provide, and we help with the application.

What would make someone a good fit for your team?

The work in your shop decides which welder will suit it. Tell us what you fabricate and how it is welded so we can ask candidates the right questions.

See how we assess and introduce candidates, then talk through your requirements with us.

  • The processes, materials and thicknesses involved, and the positions the work is welded in.
  • Any coded qualification or weld procedure the work has to meet.
  • Whether the role is in the workshop or on site, the hours and the planned start date.

Frequently Asked Questions

Welding & Fabrication recruitment in Ireland: what you need to know.

Can you find coded welders?
Yes. Tell us the standard, process, material and positions the work has to meet, and we'll put forward welders whose qualification covers it. If you'd rather qualify new starters to your own weld procedure, tell us that too and we'll look for welders with the experience to pass it.
What salary do I need to offer a welder from outside the EEA?
At least €36,605 a year for a General Employment Permit, the minimum since 1 March 2026. The salary in your job advert has to meet the same threshold, or the application can be refused.
How long does it take to hire a welder from overseas?
Longer than a local hire, because of the permit. The job advert has to run for at least 28 days before you apply, DETE's processing time varies through the year, and the welder then needs time to move. Welders already in Ireland or elsewhere in the EU can usually start much sooner.
Can I see a welder's work before hiring them?
Yes. For candidates in Ireland we can arrange a practical test at your workshop, and for candidates in Brazil we can organise a visit so you can meet them and watch them weld.
Do you recruit welders for site work as well as workshops?
Yes. We recruit for fabrication shops and factories, and for structural steel and pipework contractors working on site. Tell us if the role involves travel or working at height so we can check candidates are prepared for it.
