Ride and exercise horses safely and effectively according to their individual needs and training programmes. School, exercise and prepare horses for racing, competition, training or other activities as required. Monitor each horse's behaviour, fitness, condition and general wellbeing. Feed and water horses according to their individual requirements. Muck out, clean and maintain stables to a high standard. Groom horses daily and maintain their coats, hooves and general presentation. Tack up and untack horses correctly and safely. Check horses for signs of injury, illness, lameness or any changes in behaviour and report concerns promptly. Assist with basic first aid and routine care when required. Maintain clean and safe yards, paddocks, equipment and working areas. Clean, maintain and safely store saddles, bridles and other riding equipment. Assist with turning horses out and bringing them in from fields or paddocks. Assist with loading and transporting horses when required. Work closely with trainers, owners, farriers, vets and other members of the team. Follow appropriate health, safety and animal welfare procedures at all times. Carry out other general yard duties as required.
Previous experience working with horses is essential.
Good riding ability and confidence handling horses from the ground and in the saddle.
Good knowledge of horse care, feeding, grooming and stable management.
Ability to recognise signs of illness, injury, stress or changes in behaviour.
Physically fit and able to carry out manual work, including lifting feed, mucking out and handling equipment.
Reliable, responsible and able to work independently.
Calm, patient and confident around horses.
Good attention to detail and a genuine commitment to horse welfare.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Previous experience in racing, competition or professional yards would be an advantage.
