Building Maintenance Operative (Plasterer / Tiler)

Our client is seeking an experienced, hands-on tradesperson to carry out plastering, tiling, painting and general finishing work across their buildings, along with external repair and block work. The successful candidate will take ownership of planned and reactive maintenance, keeping internal and external areas safe, well presented and in good repair. This role suits a skilled finisher who is comfortable working independently across a variety of tasks.

Internal Finishing

• Plaster, skim and render walls and ceilings, including patch repairs and full re-skims
• Install, fix and repair plasterboard, including taping, joint filling and sanding to a smooth finish
• Set out and lay wall and floor tiles, including cutting, adhesive application, grouting and sealing
• Prepare surfaces and apply paint, primers and finishes to walls, ceilings, woodwork and metalwork
• Carry out caulking, sealing and minor making-good after other trades
• Repair cracks, damp-damaged areas and general wear to internal finishes

External Works

• Lay blocks and bricks for boundary walls, repairs, small extensions and outbuildings
• Render, point and repair external walls
• Carry out repairs to paths, steps, kerbs and paved areas
• Maintain drainage gullies, gutters and downpipes
• Paint and treat external surfaces, fences and gates

General

• Plan and prioritise planned and reactive maintenance tasks
• Measure, estimate and order materials for jobs
• Read basic drawings and work to specification
• Maintain tools and equipment in good, safe condition
• Follow all health and safety procedures, including safe working at height
• Keep simple records of work completed and report defects to the supervisor

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years' experience as a plasterer, tiler or finishing tradesperson
• Proven skill in plastering, skimming, tiling, painting and joint filling to a high standard
• Experience in block laying and external repair work
• Trade qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent certified experience in a construction trade
• Valid Safe Pass (or willingness to obtain one before starting)
• Able to work on your own initiative and manage your own workload
• Good standard of spoken English for site safety and communication
• Physically fit, with the ability to work at height and outdoors in all weathers

Desirable

• Experience driving a tractor for moving materials around the site
• Plumbing experience, such as fitting and repairing taps, toilets, pipework and radiators
• Experience with dry lining or carpentry repairs
• Full driving licence
• Manual Handling and Working at Height certificates

• Salary: €36,605 per year
• Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime
• Contract: Full-time, permanent
• Employment permit: the employer will sponsor a General Employment Permit for suitable non-EEA candidates
