Structural steel Welder/Fabricator
County Kerry | Permanent | €36,605 a year
About This Role
The role
Our client is hiring two Structural Steel Welder/Fabricators to join their team in County Kerry on a permanent, full-time basis. You will fabricate and weld structural steel parts and assemblies from engineering drawings, working through each job from marking out and cutting to the final weld and finishing. This role is for someone who has worked on structural steel before, can read fabrication drawings with confidence and takes pride in accurate, sound welds.
What you will do
Read and interpret fabrication and general arrangement drawings, cutting lists and weld symbols to plan each piece of work.
Mark out, cut, drill and prepare steel sections, plate and hollow sections to the sizes and tolerances on the drawing.
Fit up and tack beams, columns, bracing, baseplates, stairs and similar structural parts so they are square and true before final welding.
Weld structural joints, mainly with MIG/MAG processes, so they meet the required standard and pass visual and any further inspection.
Grind, dress and finish welds and steelwork so it is ready for painting, galvanising or delivery.
Check your own work against the drawing with measuring tools and correct any problems before they go further.
Operate workshop equipment safely, including saws, drills, grinders, plasma or gas cutting gear and lifting equipment.
Keep your work area tidy and follow site safety rules and safe systems of work at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Essential
Proven experience as a welder or welder/fabricator working with structural steel.
Ability to produce consistent, good quality MIG/MAG welds in a range of positions.
Confidence reading fabrication drawings and weld symbols and working to stated tolerances.
Accurate measuring and marking out skills using tapes, squares and other workshop measuring tools.
Experience using common fabrication equipment such as saws, drills, grinders and cutting gear.
A safe, careful way of working and a good understanding of workshop health and safety.
Ability to work on your own from a drawing as well as alongside other fabricators on larger assemblies.
Desirable
A current welding qualification to I.S. EN ISO 9606-1 or a similar recognised standard.
Experience of work carried out under I.S. EN 1090 for structural steel.
A valid Safe Pass card, which is needed for any work on construction sites.

View All JobsAbout our client Our client is an established non-destructive testing (NDT) and inspection company in Ireland. Its team of PCN and ASNT approved technicians carries out magnetic particle, ultrasonic, radiographic, eddy current and penetrant testing, along with welding procedure approval, welder qualification, CE approval for fabricators and welder training and consultancy. Its customers include fabricators, manufacturers and plant operators, who rely on it to confirm that their work meets the quality they need. The role Our client is looking for a Welding Engineer/Inspector to join its team in County Dublin on a fixed-term contract. You will be responsible for the quality and compliance of welded stainless steel and mild steel pipework, including eccentric fittings and joints between dissimilar metals. The role calls for in-depth knowledge of TIG welding and practical experience in visual inspection, liquid penetrant testing and borescope inspection. You will need a full driving licence. What you will do Inspect welded stainless and mild steel pipework to confirm it meets the required quality and compliance standards. Assess eccentric and dissimilar metal pipe joints, paying close attention to fit-up, weld profile and material compatibility. Carry out visual inspection of welds before, during and after welding. Perform liquid penetrant testing to find surface-breaking defects and record the results accurately. Use a borescope to examine the internal weld root and bore condition of pipework that cannot be inspected directly. Review TIG welding practice and parameters, and advise welders and fabricators on how to correct defects and prevent them. Prepare clear inspection reports and quality records for each job. Travel to customer sites as required to carry out inspections.
About our client Our client is an engineering and manufacturing business serving the marine, fishing, aquaculture, energy and renewables sectors. Established in 2005, it specialises in coded welding and marine fabrication. It also designs and manufactures its own patented marine access equipment for piers and vessels. Its in-house team takes projects from concept through design, prototyping and fabrication, and it provides on-site support in Ireland, the UK and overseas. The role This is a permanent, full-time role for a Design Mechanical Engineer in County Donegal. You will join the in-house design team and turn customer requirements into practical, manufacturable designs for marine equipment and fabricated steel structures. You will work closely with the welders and fabricators who build what you design, so your drawings and specifications need to be clear, accurate and workable on the shop floor. Projects range from bespoke one-off solutions to the ongoing development of the company's own products, and you will sometimes work alongside customers, shipyards and naval architects. What you will do Study each customer's requirements and the conditions the equipment must operate in, and develop concept designs that address them. Produce 3D models, general arrangement drawings and detailed fabrication drawings, including weld details, tolerances and bills of materials. Carry out engineering calculations to confirm that structures and mechanisms are strong, safe and compliant with the relevant standards. Support the prototyping and testing of new designs, then refine them based on the results. Work with the fabrication team to resolve build queries, improve manufacturability and keep projects on schedule. Liaise with customers, shipyards and naval architects to agree technical details and design changes. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design records, manuals and quality paperwork. Contribute to the continued development and improvement of the company's own product range.
About our client Our client is an award-winning, family-run engineering business that has worked in the steel industry for around two decades. It started in the agricultural sector and now covers structural steel fabrication and erection, storage tank manufacturing to European standards, commercial and industrial fabrication, factory maintenance and bespoke decorative steelwork. It has its own design team and holds ISO 9001 certification. The role Our client is looking for an experienced Pipe (Boiler Plate) Welder to join its team in County Monaghan on a permanent, full-time basis. You will prepare and weld pipe and plate in carbon steel, stainless steel and other common industrial materials, working from engineering and isometric drawings and producing quality welds in different positions. The work can include construction sites, so you will need a valid Safe Pass. You will be expected to work on your own and as part of a team. What you will do Read and work from engineering drawings, pipe isometric drawings and welding symbols to understand each job before you start. Prepare pipes and plates for welding by cutting, grinding, cleaning and bevelling, using plasma cutting and other cutting equipment where needed. Weld pipe joints and plate accurately in different positions using MMA/ARC, TIG and MIG/MAG processes. Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and other common industrial materials, following the correct welding procedure and controlling heat input and joint preparation. Inspect your finished welds, find and correct any defects, and help keep work to the required quality standard. Set up, use and look after welding machines, grinders, cutting equipment and other workshop tools. Work safely and follow health and safety requirements in the workshop and on site.
