About This Role

A progressive Irish manufacturing company is seeking a qualified Welding Inspector / Mechanical Engineer to oversee quality assurance and inspection activities across fabrication and welding operations. This role combines technical engineering knowledge with hands-on inspection duties to ensure all products meet required standards and specifications.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections of welded joints and fabrications
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, welding procedures, and technical specifications
  • Verify compliance with relevant codes and standards (ISO 9606, EN 1090, AWS)
  • Document inspection results and prepare detailed reports
  • Review and approve welding procedure specifications (WPS)

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Level 8 NFQ) OR CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector certification
  • Minimum 3 years experience in welding inspection or QA
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes (MIG, TIG, Arc)
  • Ability to read complex engineering drawings
  • Full driving licence

Desirable

  • NDT certification (Level 2) in ultrasonic, magnetic particle, or dye penetrant testing
  • Experience with EN 1090 execution class requirements
  • CAD software experience
