Key Responsibilities
- Conduct visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections of welded joints and fabrications
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, welding procedures, and technical specifications
- Verify compliance with relevant codes and standards (ISO 9606, EN 1090, AWS, or equivalent)
- Perform dimensional inspections and tolerance verification
- Document inspection results and prepare detailed inspection reports
- Identify welding defects and non-conformances, recommending corrective actions
- Witness critical welds and hold points during fabrication
- Review and approve welding procedure specifications (WPS) and welder qualifications (WPQ)
- Liaise with production teams, welders, and engineering staff on quality matters
- Maintain inspection equipment and ensure calibration is current
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in quality and production processes
- Assist with preparation of method statements and risk assessments
- Provide technical guidance to production personnel
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
Essential Requirements
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification (Level 8 NFQ)
OR
CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector certification or equivalent (TWI, AWS CWI, IWI)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in welding inspection or quality assurance in manufacturing/fabrication
- Strong knowledge of welding processes (MIG, TIG, Arc) and fabrication methods
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications
- Understanding of relevant welding standards (EN ISO, AWS, or equivalent)
- Experience with visual inspection techniques and acceptance criteria
- Proficiency in using measuring instruments and inspection equipment
- Excellent report writing and documentation skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and inspection software
- Full driving licence
Desirable Requirements
- NDT certification (Level 2) in ultrasonic, magnetic particle, or dye penetrant testing
- CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector or AWS CWI certification
- Experience with EN 1090 execution class requirements
- Knowledge of structural steelwork or pressure vessel fabrication
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and quality management systems
- CAD software experience (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
- Experience in heavy engineering or construction sectors
- Safe Pass, Manual Handling, and Abrasive Wheels certifications
